Tramin Stoan Bianco, Alto Adige, Italy 2020

Tramin Stoan Bianco.

Alcohol: 14.0% White from Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige Year: 2020

A unique and interesting blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, and Gewürztraminer. The nose is complex, with notes of pineapple, banana, pear, apricot, and tropical fruits in the background. Despite its body, the wine still feels lively on the palate due to its refreshing acidity.

About Producer Nerdy stuff Serving

Tramin is a cooperative of 160 families tending approximately 270 hectares of vineyards. Tramin is committed to organic and biodynamic principles. About 37 acres of their vineyards are currently cultivated using these methods. They emphasize the importance of biodiversity and have been phasing out chemicals from their vineyards over the past decade, with a significant portion now managed organically.

Fermentation

At harvest, the grapes are delivered in small bins and immediately gently pressed. The must ferments slowly at controlled temperatures (18-20°C) in wood barrels (30 – 40 hl), in which partial malolactic fermentation occurs. The wine is clarified through natural sedimentation of particles.

Maturation

Stoan matures separately in large wood barrels (30-40 hl), at constant lees contact until the end of August. After blending and bottling, the wine matures in the bottle for at least another 3 months. Total maturation period is thus at least 14 months.
